The Eagle and the Chicken
The eagle is free spirit, soaring to the heights of eternityThe wind in its face, the wind in its lungs,Watching the world from a heavenly perspectiveThe wind behind, the wind under its wingsEffortless grace, feeding on fresh meat from the green pasturesThe wind over, the wind ruffling the feathersThe wind enveloping its very being,Constantly blowing, constantly movingAt one with the windWind of the Spirit
We are Christian chickensWe are free range tooThe wind ruffles our feathersWe cluck among ourselves in fellowshipWe have a great pecking orderThe rooster keeps us in lineWe wonder at his colourful feathersWe scratch the groundWhich once were green with past revivalsWe see the grass beyond the borders of our compoundIt looks really goodBut we can't go it might be a cultThe wire keeps us safeNow there is less to do in our compoundOur rooster provides all our needsBut our numbers haven’t grown recentlyBecause our crèche is oldOr someone else has better entertainmentSo we will spend more moneyAnd try to further the kingdom of GodSome times we have two roostersThey don't seem to want to get onSo one will start another coop in the meadowHe decides the shape of the boundariesAnd he will organize a doctrinal fenceHe will cluck and crow loudlyShow off his colourful feathersHe has a real giftAnd some of us will follow himTo the green grass in his compoundIt must be true revivalWe praise god for the new freedomIn time the green novelty wears a little thinWe miss the old dust baths,Then some will go back to the old compoundThe rooster then clears some ground for a new dust bathWe are happyBut we hear loud music from our old placeThe rooster clears more and more ground to entertain usIn time we have unity with our old churchCluck about the differences in the shape of our compoundAnd we rejoice in the memory of lushness. We don’t really understandWhy there is not many new chicksWe lay so many eggsAnd cluck about it excitedly to the other hensBut they constantly vanishWe don’t know whereThe rooster says that it is because the seats are too hard,So we spend lots of money and refurbishLots of hens come from other coopsOur church is overflowing,We organize new programsIt is great to see all the new facesIt must be revival.Sometimes a hen will go all strangeShe will disappear for a whileAnd then one day march backWith some little onesShe has become very protectiveWont let any one nearShe is so full for the love of the lostIts almost an inspirationEveryone is so happyWe brag about it to all the neighbouring coopsBut another rooster has offered her a new perchRight next to himThe hen has taken her chicks and goneBut we do not worry too muchOur rooster is organizing a better softer perchShe will be back soon. Some of our sisters live in smaller traditional cagesThey have food all the timeThey don't have to scratch for itThere is water providedThey do not even have to moveThey live insideThey do not feel the windThe cages are all the sameIdentical in every wayThey are free to move inside the cageNot that they have to do anythingLook they are taking down some of the cage wallsMaking them biggerThere are not too many differences nowLets put our heads togetherAnd try to work out our differencesChurch unityBringing us togetherLook at our combined numbersAll tied together in a cozy bundle…
